Montreal, Quebec — The Canadiens opened practice Thursday and got the puck on the ice in the first game of the preseason against the Edmonton Oilers at the Bell Centre.
With a preseason game set for Saturday at home against the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Canadiens will be in for another tough stretch of games with their season in the balance.
The Canadiens are also facing the possibility of being without top defenceman Zach Redmond, who was sidelined for two games with a lower-body injury.
The team will also be without forward Zach Redmond for at least a few weeks with a groin injury.
Forward Brendan Gallagher missed his fourth straight game with an upper-body issue.
He has missed four games since returning to the lineup in late December.
